What is the best nutritional approach when trying to gain muscle mass?

The right answer is... A!

If you are looking to MAXIMIZE muscle growth, a caloric surplus is your safest bet.

Think about it - The weight you put on is technically energy.

In order to put on more energy than the amount you currently have, you'd need excess energy from food (surplus).

Nevertheless, that doesn't mean you should go overboard with the surplus, as that may lead to excessive fat gains.

The recommended daily caloric surplus for the goal of maximizing muscle gains, is about 250-300 calories.
